I have no idea what I did. I changed out power steering pump because it was leaking pretty bad. Then a cooling line for the transmission was leaking so I changed it. Ever since I changed the power steering pump, the truck stopped shifting hard all together. I changed the transmission cooling line, then the signal light started working like it should. Like I said I have no idea what I did, unless the problem corrected itself. I have no idea. But everything is working like it should. I just need to change transmission filter and fluid. Thanks for all your help.

Welcome back:

Interesting I have to be honest, that has to be the most interesting fix I ever had. LOL Regardless, I am really glad it is working properly. Let us know if you have questions in the future.

Take care,
Joe

The hard shifting from first to second is back. It started doing it again yesterday. I don't understand why it corrects itself then goes back to shifting hard. I'll scan the truck for trouble codes then let you know what I find. If the problem is electronic and there's a 25% loss or more then a code should be stored in the computer.

The codes detected is: 13= oxygen sensor circuit open or no activity, and code 43= knock sensor error. That's all the computer has stored in it.

I was driving my truck yesterday with the heater on. It was working very well. I stopped at a store. When I left the store the heater completely stopped working. All fuses are good. I haven't checked the power supply or the relay yet. What do you think caused it to stop working all of a sudden?

I have a power steering problem. I changed the power steering pump a while back due to a leaking front seal on power steering pump. Things started working fine until lately. The dipstick for the power steering pump had a little flap type seal which stayed on the dipstick but went inside the pump. Now it is no longer in its place so the power steering fluid is leaking out. I don't see any visible leaks. Does the flap/seal stop the fluid from leaking from the top where the dipstick screws in? I don't see anything else that could be leaking

Welcome back:

That seal/flap is to redirect fluid back into the pump. With that in mind, yes it could leak. You can get a new one for little money at any parts store.

I have had this truck for about a year and a half with very little trouble. I never changed the spark plug until today. I made sure all plugs was gaped properly and spark plug wires is snapped on like they should be. Now the truck runs really bad. It runs good at idle but while driving it runs badly with no pick up or anything like that. I can hear a slight knocking sound while driving about 40 mph. What can be doing this? It was running fine before I changed the spark plugs. I changed them and now its running worse than ever before.

The plug wires and distributor cap was changed about a month or two ago. So they should be in good condition.

Welcome back:

A few things may have happened. First, make sure the firing order is correct. You may have switched a couple plug wires. Here is the firing order and the attached picture shows cylinder location.

Firing Order .................... 1-6-5-4-3-2

If that is correct, I would next suggest that you scan the computer to see if one or more of the cylinders are misfiring. This is an obd 1 system and is very easy to get codes from. Follow this link. Also, all you need is a short jumper wire or even a paper clip to get the codes.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/buick-cadillac-chevy-gmc-oldsmobile-pontiac-gm-1983-1995-obd1-code-definitions-and-retrieval-method

If that shows a specific cylinder misfire, remove the plug and confirm that the spark plug gap is properly set and the plug is good and not damaged.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-change-spark-plugs

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-an-ignition-system

One last thing. If everything checks good, wait until dark, open the hood, and start the engine. Watch for sparks arcing from the plugs, plug wires, or distributor cap.

Let me know what you find.

I have a coolant leak somewhere that I cannot find. It's not visible at all. Coolant isn't mixing with the oil, the radiator cap is a few months old, I can't see any leaks while the truck is at idle, I put an piece of plywood under the entire engine but still no visible signs of a leak. It must only leak while driving. I can't see where it is coming from. I don't have a pressure tester to pressure up the cooling system to see where it leaks from. The heater core isn't leaking either. I checked hoses, water pump, and thermostat housing and gaskets for leaks. I can't find anything leaking anywhere. I know it is leaking though because I have to add coolant often to the radiator and overflow. Where would it be leaking from?

Welcome back:

It could be several things. It could be a leaking expansion plug on the engine block, a head gasket, it could be getting burned in the engine. Even a coolant temperature sensor may be leaking.

Is there any white smoke from the exhaust?

Take a look through these links and see if they help. Also, you may want to rent a pressure tester from a parts store. Most will lend one to you.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-is-leaking-coolant

Here is a link that shows how to check for a head gasket issue:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/head-gasket-blown-test

And this is what I recommend doing. See if you can get your hands on a tester.

Let me know what you find.

The truck doesn't smoke at all. Not black or white or blue smoke. It runs very well but this coolant leak is hard to find. I ran the truck to normal operating temperature (180°) but still dont see any leaks. Coolant isn't mixing with the oil or leaking from any exterior of the engine that I can see.

What I would suggest is this. They make a dye you can mix into the coolant and then look for leaks with a black light. You may not see the leak, but something is happening. I'm really questioning if it is getting burned in the engine without notice. How much do you have to add, how often, approximately how many miles?
