That could be because if the sensor is weak it would only fire every other time which would make, sense. Let's give it a try and let me know.

You could test the sensor if you have an oscilloscope.

As many crank sensors as I replace they need to make a tester just for them. O-scope works but not a cheap DIY item.

Oky men its been a few days but I did put a new crank sensor in, car WILL start and idle slow for a couple seconds then spits and sputters then dies. The few seconds it is running I press on gas and it dies, will only idle couple seconds if I dont press on gas and die. But it now is kicking out a code, P2228 barametric pressure circuit low. MAP sensor possably? I went to a parts store they say I have a bent piston or cracked piston head. Hope thats not the case. I think were getting close! I changed oil too. Was milky brown in colar. Deffanetly had water go through it

Hey Pat,

Milky is not good, you may have a blown head gasket, can you remove the spark plugs and check their condition to see if any are discolored from the rest? also here is a guide to check for a blown head gasket.

Please let us know what you find so it will help others.

Best, Ken

Car was running roughly, sputtering, no power on acceleration so replaced the fuel filter and reinstalled the fuel pump fuses. Tried to start car but won't turn over and engage and need to know why. Engine tries to turn over but ends up losing power and won't even turn over starter. Just clicks and lights dim. Any assistance you could provide would be most helpful.

Sounds first like your battery is dead, I would put it back on a charge and see if it starts. Double check the fuse to make sure it's in all the way. Let's try this and go from there.

Also turn your ignition to run without starting it. You should hear a light whine, this is your fuel pump, if you don't hear anything then there is no power going to your fuel pump. This is the pump priming the fuel lines.

Okay the compression seems okay, lets continue with to see if you missing spark or fuel pressure?

Here are some guides to help you

and

BAP sensor is a different part than MAP on that engine. BAP measures pressure outside the engine it's on the top left near the MAF sensor. MAP is inside manifold pressure and is stuck in the manifold farther back. From the setting criteria for that code I would replace the BAP sensor. You could check it for 5 volt and ground but I suspect those are OK.

Now that it does try to start, try unplugging the MAF and see if it sets a code, it should if the PCM is seeing it.
