Engine is overheating help!

I recently brought the car from TX to CO on a trailer when I drove it the first time out here it overheated I took it to a shop and they replaced the intake manifold gaskets which were soaked at both ends of the of the gasket when I left the shop I got less than 2 miles and it over heated again (my ex husband removed the AC pump a few months ago because the pump "froze up" ) the car ran fine in TX and didn't have a chronic heating issue I am having the water pump replaced to see if this helps I have already changed the temperature sending unit and the thermostat a compression test ruled out a bad head gasket not sure what else it might be but am curious if you have any suggestions I'm only too happy to listen my friend thinks my ex may have routed the serpentine belt wrong and he did replace the AC pump with an idler pulley with the same size pulley

I have a 1999 Taurus. If I sit to long at a light it overheats. If I turn on the air it overheats. If I turn on the heat it overheats. It never has hyad smoke coming from under the hood, but it has gone all the way up to the H. I know NOTHING about cars. I don't want to take it to the shop and spend lots of money on something that I don't need fixed. Let me know what you think the problem may be.

You can try to replace the thermostat that costs no more then 10 bucks. If that dont work let me know and well narrow it down

This vehicle is overheating and has transmission fluid in the radiator. Checked radiator and it appears to have water from radiator in it. Drained both and it happened again. What causes?

The trans cooler in your radiator is leaking. Either add a trans cooler in front of your rad. (Requires cutting the trans lines to rout them to the cooler (no worries, low pressure) or replacing the radiator. If your trans oil is starting to turn milky, your trans will fail.

A friend of mine owns the car and is having problems with it overheating. It started when the heater quit working and it overheated. We flushed the radiator, (and it was real rust colored) and found a crack in the resivoir, which we replaced. It ran o.K. For a few weeks and now it is overheating again. This time it is running rough and he tells me that the AC is affected when it starts getting hot. The Temp. Guage goes up high and then falls some and when it is up the coolant is blowing out of the radiator cap. Could this be a clogged radiator or does it sound like something more serious like a head gasket. The car has 174k miles. Thanks for any help. He is a college student and I would like to help him if at all possible.

Try these cheap fix-replace the thermostat and radiator cap and then comeback. We still got a long way to go.

I have a 1999 Ford Taurus SE with a 3.0 L DOHC V6 with 188039 miles on the odometer My car is starting to have a overheating problem caused by the coolant overflowing the top of the coolant expansion tank. I have replaced the radiator cap, the thermostat, and the water pump. They used a Combustion Leak Tester, and the tester stayed blue to state that the head gaskets are intact.

Also, I had the radiator replaced after it was clogged. After replacing the radiator, the engine tries to overheat again when the car is driven. The shop check out the heater core and it is not clogged. The radiator fan is electric and runs. Is there still air in the system or I need to have them flush the engine block to remove whatever is restricting a coolant passage. I do not want to replace the engine due to the cost and they don� � � � � � � � t want to replace the head gaskets due to the fact that Ford do not have timing marks on the camshafts on this engine and the complexity of the engine.
Any suggestions for them to look for.

Hello,

If the work was just recently done then yes it is possible that there is an air bubble in the system. It is very hard to get them out. You can try jacking the vehicle up on the side of the upper radiator hose as high as you can safely do. This will help the bubble move to the highest point. Start vehicle and let run for a while, keeping eye on temp.

If that doesn't work then the next thing to do is to remove the thermostat and run vehicle for a while. This will continually circulate the water and move the bubble out.

Also not sure were the people you took your vehicle to get there info but setting timing is no problem. At least I haven't had any problems.

I have a 99' Ford Taurus with 123,000 miles it is v-6, auto. I'm having a problem with it overheating but only when stopped at a light or parked. If the car is moving temperture is normal but once stopped at a light the temp. Gauge will rise. Replased thremostate did a system flush, Any advise would help

Overheating can be caused by anything that decreases the cooling system's ability to absorb, transport and dissipate heat: A low coolant level, a coolant leak (through internal or external leaks), poor heat conductivity inside the engine because of accumulated deposits in the water jackets, a defective thermostat that doesn't open, poor airflow through the radiator, a slipping fan clutch, an inoperative electric cooling fan, a collapsed lower radiator hose, an eroded or loose water pump impeller, or even a defective radiator cap

Just replaced the pully and belts - heat stop working and ea time I put in the anti freeze you can smell it and the car starts to over heat but only when I am at a stand still if I am driving the temp doesnt go up a guy told me I need to replace my water pump. Last summer I did the texas air check and they did over 600.00 in repairs what could be wrong now

If leaking coolant system need to be pressure check and repair as needed
Water pump is a possibility and also timing cover gasket

Engine Cooling problem
1999 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 108.00 miles

I had a leak in the orginal expansion tank near the bottom. 11years old. put in new tank. ok for 1 week. started to leak from under the lid. the lid is glued on. replaced it with another expansion tank. while driving i herd a loud pop. open up the hood and coolant was spuing out the tank under the black lid thats glued on. both caps were new. olso looks like tank is expanding when hot. whats causing pressure to buil up inside the tank and explode.

Its supposerd to be under pressure. The sealed system and the water expanding creates pressure. Its vital or the water would boil at a lower temperature. It could be beng damaged due to you using a crappy quality parts and not oem. Or it couild be from something worse. Such as a blown headgasket causing combustion gases to buiild up inside of it and then burst the tank.

Check for coolant loss with a pressure test, check radiator cap is ok and holding pressure, have radiator cleaned (core clean) not a flush, check fans are working, have head check done if all other items are ok.
