Will not start

I replaced the fuel pump, tank filter, new plugs, wires cap, and rotor. It has about 47lbs fuel pressure. It has 12v at injector and has pulse. But still wont start. But if I spray start fluid it will run. Help please.

Good morning,

Your fuel pressure is too high. I posted the spec below.

You may have pressure but no volume. You need to allow some pressure from the fuel rail into a container to see if there is actual fuel in the rail.

Well, now my Chilton repair manual say the 2.2l is supposed to have 64 to 85 PSI. So I'm low at 47 PSI. So does that mean because it's too low the injectors wont release the fuel? It's a new fuel pump. How do I increase the pressure please?

I don't know where they came up with that figure. The correct pressure for both engines listed is what I posted in my first response.

We get our information from Alldata.

There is no way to increase pressure. If it is incorrect, the pump needs to be replaced.

Can you upload a snapshot of that spec for me?

Sure Chilton repair manual, but if you say it's too high how can I reduce it? And it's a new pump.

The pump pressure is controlled by the pressure regulator on the fuel rail on the motor.

I attached a picture for you below of the location and how to test it.

Oh, and that's not my fuel pump. Mine has 4pin plug on top not separate wires. Coming out of the lid plate.

Also, I wasn't getting power to the fuel pump. I put a 4pin relay to power the pump. Yes, I replaced the fuel pump relay before I bypassed the relay.

How can you have fuel pressure when there is no power to the fuel pump? Please explain?

I put a 4 pin relay. I explained that in my last message wired it up to my battery and a keyed power using 10 gauge wire.

Why did you do that?

That may be the reason for the not starting.

How did you verify no power? What wires did you test?

When it comes to replace a part I can do any remove and replace but electric i'm really terrible. Thanks for trying. I think i'm in over my head. What is not good is I don't make enough money to have a pro look at it and tell me why the injectors wont release the fuel and if my fuel pressure is too high why wont the injectors release the fuel.

I don't believe the ECM is grounding the injectors and allowing them to pass fuel.

It has 12v when you turn the key on and when you hook up the test light to positive and crank you have pulse. Doesn't that mean it's getting proper signal?

Not on the positive side. The negative side is what pulses. One wire has constant 12 volts. The other wire goes to the ECM for grounding.

So you're saying the same wire that has the constant 12v is the same that pulses when I put my light tester to the positive side the other side is ground from the ECM. So how can I check to see if the ECM is sending ground to the injector please?

If I have a bad oil pressure switch could that stop it from running if I put a bypass fuel pump relay and my pump turns on shouldn't it run? I only bypassed the relay. Please and thank you for your patience. My fuel pump relay doesn't have any numbers on it it's a 5 pin relay. When I pull it out and turn the key on only the center pin is getting 12v where the relay. Is plugged in.

Or could the low oil sensor stop it from running? It has new oil and it's full but on the readout above the mirror it says low oil has a red light arrow so does the coolant but both are full and the other lights are orange up there.

No, the positive side is a constant voltage sent to many sensors. The other side of the other wire is the one you test for pulsating when the engine cranks or is running.

There is only 1 positive side. The other side shows voltage until the wire is grounded. Then it should show 0 volts.

Well, I fixed the fuel pump issue and removed my relay but the car wont start still. Doesn't the fuel pressure regulator control how much PSI is let in? The injectors are getting control signal if it wasn't would the test light still blink or pulse? Would the low oil light keep it from running? It's not low and to pull codes I have to jumper 2 wires or ground 1. Please help, i'm just frustrated. I know your trying to help. Please and thank you.
