I've rung a couple of VW repairers but no-one seem to get back go me on with a firm quote for the clutch replacement, one guy said the part it self will cost AU$1400 just for the part. IS there any after market products for this job the cost less and still reliable?
Anyone had this job done? Please assist
Also what is the cost of front and rear breaks done in at a mechanic for my GTI

Hi there,

I will get a local costing on after market parts after Easter and post it for you.

I just had the whole assembly replaced. The clutch plates, pressure plate, throw-out bearing and flywheel came out to $1400 for labor and parts. They told me the parts alone came to $1200. Flywheel is the most expensive, coming in between 800-900 on it's own. Apparently, GTIs made after 2000, have parts that are waaaaay more expensive than earlier models.
