Why my engine does not start up and run?

When trying to start, engine just turns, turns, turns. If I hold the pedal all the way down to the floor, it tries to start but then shuts off. I cannot keep it running. It is a fuel injection system.

Check fuel pressure with a gauge, it kind of sounds like the pump has gone bad and not enough fuel.
