Parking lamp stays on driver's side draining the battery.

I pulled the fuses and relay and the lamp stayed on both times.

I’m only having issues with the driver’s side parking lamp.

Bad BCM unit?

Any help is appreciated can’t afford to take it to the dealer.

Thank you.

Hi,

Do me a favor. With the lights turned off, remove the bulbs from the park lamp sockets. I need you to check which wire has power. The supply will either be a brown wire or a light green wire. Additionally, there will be a black wire which is ground.

See which wire has power at all times and let me know what it is. Note there is an upper bulb, lower bulb, and marker light. I need confirmation of which socket is involved.

Here is a link you may find helpful:

Let me know what you find.

Hey Joe, both upper and lower sockets are getting constant power with the headlight off no key in the ignition, no power. Woke up one day, jumped in the truck and it was not working. Realized the parking lamps were staying on which drained the battery haven't had it fixed since going on 4 years, lol.
Thanks for the reply.

Hi,

Okay. We need to know where the power is coming from. I need you to remove fuse 27 in the under-hood fuse box. Does the light turn off? If so, we identified the circuit. If not, there is a short to power from a different circuit.

I realize you removed fuses prior, but I need to confirm this is the one you removed.

See pic below for fuse location.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

Okay, there is a short to power from a different circuit. Try removing one fuse at a time to see if there is one that turns it off. Hopefully, that will lead me to where the issue can be located.

Do this and let me know which fuse turns it off.

Hey Joe, you won’t believe me I pulled each and every fuse and relay under the hood main panel and none of them turned off the power, so I went inside the driver door side and pulled all of those fuses and none of them turned off power either.

What do we do next?

Hi,

Check the wiring between the battery and fuse/relay box. That would provide power before the fuses. That is the only thing that would make sense.

Let me know.

Hey Joe, I checked the wiring from battery to fuse/relay box and I don’t see anything out of the norm not even sure what to look for at this point. Doesn’t look like anything has been disturbed. I’m the original owner and have cared for it always it’s all stock no mods with 400,000.

Hi,

You took good care of it if it has that many miles. As far as the light, there is no dead end. I always have other ideas. LOL

Now, I went through the schematics again. For power to reach the taillight (RR) it has to go through the park light relay. However, if the relay was bad, you would have both rears staying on. So, that isn't the issue.

That (at least in my tiny mind) means we have power between the relay and the bulb. All parking lights are powered via a brown wire for the left side. There is another thing I want you to inspect. (If you haven't already). On the left rear of the frame rail is the tail lamp junction box. Locate it and inspect the wiring to and from it. Confirm the connectors are not damaged or have any obvious damage. Disconnect it and see if the light turns off.

I attached a pic of the junction block below, so you know what to look for. Never lose faith. We'll figure it out. Wiring usually requires simply narrowing things down.

Take care,

Joe
