Hello,

It sounds like the battery is going out. Lets do this test to confirm.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-battery-load-test

Please run this test and get back to us we are interested to see what it is.

Cheers, Ken

Since the problems you have are not directly related, are you certain there is power to the fuses in question?

I have attached a few pics below. Before going to the relay sockets, check the fuses I circled in the pic.

Look at pic 4. I placed a + where there should be power when the key is on but not in the start position. The two sides of the relay that I circled power when the key is in the start position and allows power to flow to the starter relay.

One other thing. Confirm the wires on the PCM in pic 3 are not damaged. I have seen them fail.

Let me know.

Truck listed above is the Classic model. The truck cranks, starts then shuts off. When this happens there are no gauge warning lights when the key is in the on position. Sometimes the truck will go for a week with no issues, then it decides to do this issue. Or I wait and keep trying to start the truck and the issue goes away. Other times, I let it sit for a day and the next day it starts and runs like there was never an issue. This has been goin on for eight months. Please see attached video for the issue.

Parts I have changed:

Ignition cylinder
Ignition switch
BCM
PCM
Checked all grounds for clean connections
Ignition fuse

While reading this I figured this was a fuel issue but that cluster is shutting off like the key was switched off. This is exactly why we love it when we get videos.

Just looking at this since it shuts off right away, that points to a theft issue. I can't remember but is that the theft light in the upper right corner of the cluster?

I attached a picture below. I am pretty sure that is a red lock which is the theft light. If you notice it stays on the entire time so we need to check for codes. Then we need to use a spare key because maybe the resistor in the key has failed.

Here is a guide that will help with checking for codes:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

Let's see if there are any and go from there. Thanks

The red light in the upper right is the battery light. The anti theft is in the upper left and it is amber. There are no codes coming up on the scanner. These are new keys with a new ignition cylinder.

Got it.

It is odd that this light stays on the entire time so we should cross off the basics and load check the battery. Let's make sure it doesn't have a shorted cell. Here is a guide that talks about this:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-battery-load-test

You can just take it out and take it to a parts store and they will load check it for you. Let us know if the batter checks out and then we can figure out other reasons for that to stay on but all other lights in the cluster go off.

If the vehicle was just stalling then I would expect all the normal cluster lights and center message center to stay on as well but everything shuts off but that light so it is being shut down and a shorted battery would cause this.

I can check this battery out, but not sure if this would cause the engine to shutdown immediately after startup. I checked the fuel pressure. I hooked up the fuel pressure gauge and turned the key to the on position. The pressure read 55 PSI then slowly moved down to 30 PSI after 5 minutes. I'm assuming the pressure should not drop. You think I have a bad fuel pump?

That is actually not bad. The fuel pump does not continuously run so after 5 minutes, I am not surprised to see that amount of bleed off.

As for the battery, it could. I agree that it is not normal characteristics of a battery but I have been burned enough by failed batteries causing odd things that we always need to cross off the basics before we move on. The only reason is we will chase our tail and spend a lot of time and money just because the battery was failed and we didn't check it because it didn't seem like it was the issue.

I agree that I expect it to be ok but again, let's just make sure it can pass a load check.

I tried jumping the battery a few months back when this issue was happening, but that didn't help. I'm not sure if jumping will help if there is a load issue since the battery is still connected to the truck. Maybe if I remove the battery out of my car and place it in the truck for a test to see if the gauge lights turn on? I can do this before I take for a load test.

I took the battery to the auto parts store for the load test this morning and it passed. The battery is good with no issues. I am towing the vehicle to the mechanic tomorrow to further investigate the issue. Thank you for your help.

The mechanic was able to get the truck started. He found that the fuse box was dirty and full of seeds, like the cover was left off for a long time. The cover has always been on since I've owned the vehicle. He cleaned it out and started checking the fuses/relays. He could not find any issues with them. In the process of pulling out and plugging back in some fuses, the dash gauge warning lights came on and the truck started. They monitored the truck for another four days, but could not reproduce the issue. This is an odd intermittent electrical issue that will probably happen again, but hopefully not.
