Hanging.

My engine started skipping Sunday night.

First time ever.

They worked on it while it was running.

It is still running.

On my laptop at the hospital.

Probably get released tomorrow.

Will get better in the next few days

Sorry for the delay.

Just got home, I will devote some attention your way as soon as the crowd of disbelievers that I am still alive diminishes.

Thanks for waiting on me!

Well, good news on my end. I got it running and seem to have corrected the issues with the lights.

Resolution - went back to a stock coil, got a ICM that I knew worked per the test at the store, redid connections to ICM with proper connectors and grounded the alternator bolt to the fire wall.

I have my fingers crossed it sticks.

Hope you are feeling better soon. Thanks again for all of the help and I will keep you posted if the fixes stick! Hope others find this helpful as well.

Wonderful!

Keep us posted with progress.

Here's a diagram with the ballast resistor.

Sorry, I had no idea I would have a heart attack during your post.

Thanks again for the help and troubleshooting ideas. Hope your recovery is swift.

You had mentioned a carburetor procedure if you want to post that when you get to full strength, I can give it a shot.

Thanks!

Question, my alternator doesn’t seem to be charging the battery. Do you have a wiring diagram I could reference?

Let's check it like this first.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-alternator

Okay

No gGo?

Look over my 1979 partial diagram (I'm pretty sure the alternator portion is the same on newer diagrams)

The newer diagrams I have are really blurry when I post them, so that's not any help either.

Notice where I "green arrowed" the wires.

It shows a 12 AMP RED 14 fusible link.

If it's shot, replace it with the same size fusible link, cheating and bypassing it might set your Jeep on fire, we don't want that!

Remove your positive battery cable (kills whole Jeep).

With your voltmeter, test for continuity through it.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-use-a-voltmeter

It may be so obvious that this wire is burned into, or the insulation stretches out like a rubber band because the inner "fuse/ wire" has disintegrated.

I had a "I got worried/ skeered" ordeal from about 6 PM to 10 PM.

I sort of had an "ache" in my heart area (not awful, but different).

I went in and had the ER check me out anyway, it's been about two weeks since the attack (and it felt like indigestion).

Pic 2) I got pulled away from a CJ-7 in need. Is this something bad or just a fart building up?

They finally said everything was fine. Back to the CJ-7!

All makes sense. Where does the brown wire originate that plugs into the back of the alternator. That is the “excite” wire I have read. Looks like PO didn’t have any wires plugged into the back of the alternator.

The excite wire runs through the firewall and splices into a red wire with a tracer.

That red wire with a tracer goes into the rear of the fuse box on one end and to the ignition switch on the other.

Both halves of the '79 diagram are below.
