I finally got the new battery cables installed. The Chrysler dealership discontinued the factory positive and negative cables. :( I had to get the three wire positive cable from Ac delco, but the negative cable was incorrect, it only had two negative wires, body and ignition wire. But every 1992 V6 Lebaron I have seen has three negative wires. Body, engine, and ignition ground. I had to fabricate my own negative cable. I used a Chrysler universal positive battery cable from AutoZone, also replaced fuel pump relay, fuel pump, and fuel filter. Charged the battery and it started right up! Drives better than ever! Faster start ups and shut downs, more power, less hesitation, smoother auto shifting, and better gas mileage! Now all I have to do is drop in a manual transmission and engine with 64,000 original miles and then get ready for Forced Induction (Turbo Charge).

Six cylinder two wheel drive automatic.

Hi, when I start my car and it runs for about five seconds and then shut off. This happens after I washed my car. Before it happened but no water got into the engine at all. Luckily it shut off on me in my drive way. I replaced the fuel filter thinking that was the problem it was not. My father and I checked if it was not getting any fuel and it has fuel and the spark plugs work and it is getting plenty of air. So our only solution is the fuel sensor is shot or damaged. We have no idea where it is located and I do not know if it is even the sensor that is damaged.

The only thing we know for sure is you replaced the fuel filter. Other than the diesel trucks, you will never solve a running problem on a Chrysler product by replacing the filter. They pass the largest volume of fuel during coasting. Logic would dictate the filter cannot be plugged if the engine runs at all, and washing the car does not lead to a plugged filter.

No idea what sensor you are referring to. If you have spark, the Automatic Shutdown (ASD) relay is turning on. That is proof the optical pickup assembly in the distributor is working. The ASD relay also sends power to the injectors, and the fuel pump or pump relay.

Since you cannot see the fuel spray from the injectors in the V-6 engines, the next step would involve teeing in a test port in the fuel supply hose to measure the pressure. You did not list the mileage, but if it is high, and if fuel pressure is acceptable, I would suggest checking the timing belt next.

If it runs for a few seconds every time you start the engine, that leaves out the timing belt too. That is the typical symptom of the anti-theft system is activated. Not sure if that was an option in 1987.
