As soon as I get in my car to go it is at the half way mark as far as cold/hot. Then it races up to H and then my car starts dinging that I need to turn car off because engine is over heated. Then it goes right back down to half way even if I do not pull over. I had all fluids checked day before yesterday when I had oil changed. Is there a sensor that may be broke or something else. I did move here to Arizona from the midwest does this have anything to do with it? Both fans seem to be working when I stop somewhere but I do not know if they are working while I am driving. What should I do?

Well start by changing your thermostat. Seeing that you came from the midwest to arizona where it is hot as heck. You may have to get the correct temperature rated thermostat for you surroungings. Or your thermostat could just be shot and is not opening and closing like its supposed to. Then you can check your engine coolant temperature sensor. It could be weak and not giving the computer the correct readings thus making the fans not come on at the appropriate times. Check those out and get back to us

Having the same problem. It's starting at the halfway point shooting up to overheated and then it goes way down again. It started doing it more frequently and I have checked all the fluids/coolants and replaced the thermostat. After changing the gauge it ran for 3 days great. Now it's doing it again. It seems the fan is going on after the car stops.

Any ideas?

Definitely check your engine coolant temperature sensor. 98 percent of the time this is the culprit. Check it out and let me know what happens. These sensors are pretty inexpensive for GM vehicles.
