Got a Rocam engine XLE. This morning driving my wife to work heard some funny sound when changing gears and stopped the car, turned the engine off and tested the gears the gears which all went well in. Then I started the car again and put it into first gear but would not move, then switched it off, put it into first gear then started it with no foot on the clutch pedal and it starts and idle but did not jump. What could the problem be?

It sounds to me as though you have a clutch problem.
I would start by checking the clutch master cylinder fluid level if this has a hydraulic clutch and if it is low enough because of a leak, then there is not only air in the system but a leak that has to be fixed, then bleed the air out afterward.

Thanks a lot for the reply. It is a hydraulic clutch system but not sure where the master cylinder is that I can check the level and maybe the leak (though I have not seen any). I will have to check on the pipes.

The clutch master cylinder is normally under the hood up on the firewall near the brake master cylinder.

Thanks again, though I will have to find a mechanic since I do not know that much about the engine nor what the hood is or the firewall is. I highly appreciate your responses they are worth a lot.

Okay, good luck.
The hood though is the thing you open up to see the engine, if of course the engine is in the front and the firewall is up by the windshield, the sheet metal that separates the engine area with the passenger compartment where you sit inside.

Oh, thanks a lot. I get you and understand very well. I usually call the hood bonnet and should I find the the clutch master cylinder fluid level not on par, should I fill it up then bleed it?

If it is low or empty, then you will have to find out what is leaking. Fill it up, press the clutch pedal down a few times and look for a leak at the clutch master cylinder, the line going down to the clutch and the clutch slave cylinder.

Got it towed home and the person I towed it with said it is a clutch plate that is damaged since it gets into gears but makes a slipping' mis-grinding' sound when one puts the foot on the clutch pedestal and one other mechanic looked at it this morning and said I should get a new clutch kit. Can that also be part of the problem?

Just to add my 2 cents. This is most definitely a clutch issue as it is pretty common for a failing clutch to make noise when driving and shifting gears and then not make any noise when shifting through the gears when not moving it makes no noise.

Here is a guide that will help with this as well:
