The other day I drove the truck with no battery to auto part store to purchase a new battery, but when I got to hooking it up and tried to start it will shut off right after it started. What could be wrong with it? Did I damage the ECM by running it with no battery?

Hello,

It is possible to damage electrical components if you run the vehicle for extended period of time without the battery.
First item you need to check it is the junction box under the hood. Check all the fuses and verify you don't have any burnt ones.
Pay special attention to the PCM1 fuse, this fuse is for the powertrain control module.
There is a change you might have damaged the ECU, but you want to check all the fuses as a good first step.
