I have a 1997 jetta 96000 miles and the transmission is beginning to slip in all gears. I wanted to know if I should just add more transmission fluid because I cant locate the dipstick to check the levels or is my transmission really going?

Hey, I thought I was having the same problem with my 97 Jetta, actually around the same mileage too! Go figure.

Anyways, I took my car to a shop and they said that the only way to add transmission fluid to the car is to cycle out all of the old fluid and replace it with new fluid. This costs around $100, he said. I didn't end up getting it done, but my situation did improve.

The Jetta doesn't have a dipstick for the transmission, I spent a good amount of time trying to find it. I'm not sure where to look to try and fix your problem either, though I'm sure you can find a self-help guide online somewhere.

Good luck
