I REALLY need help badly! I have a 2001 Kia Sportage and when I am driving occasionally but especially when I stop the car feels with the smell of gasoline. I thought maybe I had a exhaust leak but I had it checked out and I don't. Also, I drive 15 miles and I use a quarter tank of gas so I fill my tank up and I'm pretty much out of gas in less than 50 miles. I also had it checked for gas leaks and nothing. Finally, when I am putting gas into the fuel tank it will "click" as if its full and gush out of the spout but it's not full. This happens like within 5 mins of me starting to pump the fuel in (even when on empty). I also recently changed my spart plugs and it hasn't helped either. Help! With my job, I drive 45 mins 1 way each day and I can not afford to keep putting gas in my car every day I go to work. - John

If you smell gas, there has to be a leak. Is the engine running properly? Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked everywhere for a fuel leak including at the injectors as well as under the vehicle? As far as the pump kicking off, you need to check to see if there is a plugged vent for the tank. If air can't escape from the tank when you fill it, the fuel won't go in. Thus, the pump kicks off.
