Hi nursegirl,

If the gear shift sticks in park, either the brake switch is not working or the interlock solenoid is not functioning properly.

I wuld suggest checking it out as you might be driving without brake lights if the switch is the cause of the problem.

Hi, I recently had my tranny rebuild but instead of using the honda transmission fluid atf-z1, I used a dextron3 transmission fluid because it was readily available. I am now experiencing some extramely harsh shifting from 1st to 2nd gear and also some slight delay in shifting. Does this mean I would have 2 get my tranny repaired again? Or should I just change my fluid? What shall I do?

My 2000 Acoord is giving me some sort of tranny (shifting) problems. When the car warms up the tranny starts slipping (rpm's go up but the vehicle hardly moves and then finally the gear kick in). I checked the fluid level and it doesn't show it needs oil nor it smells like burned or no showing of metal shavings. One mechanic told me it seems to be a the tranny solenoind. Is this possible?

Hi moreno928,

Yes, it could be a faulty solenoid of the transmission itself. Get a free scan done at Autozone to check if any trouble codes are stored ini the PCM and let meknow if any found.

Get it scanned with a good scan tool. The light will have set codes that can point you toward the problem. Without them you are flying blind.

I just bought a 2001 accord lx v6 from a good friend who was the only owner and took great care of the car. Though buying from a friend, I still took it to a mechanic who said it is in "excellent" condition. He said I should have the transmission fluid changed in the next 5k-8k miles.

Yesterday I noticed a couple of times that as I slowed down you could feel the transmission downshift at about 5-15mph. The RPMs went up very slightly--I believe it went from 2nd to 1st. I've done a lot of research and found that it might be the Grade Logic system. However, this was on a flat surface. It was cool outside though.

Do you think the slight downshift is due to Grade Logic, or is this a sign (early sign) of a malfunctioning transmission? The transmission appears to work fine otherwise (no slipping, no harsh shifting, etc.).

Hi Christopher,

Thank you for the donation.

It is difficult to say if it is grade logic or the trans shifted slightly harsher than normal.

A longer period of monitoring would be required to understand the situation. As you already knows, grade logic works according to the condition and data available to the PCM.

Some transmission don't fail even after a long period of harsh shfting and the only problem you would encounter is the harsh jerks occasionally when throttle pressure is applied to accelerate.

Forget about worrying when the transmission is going to fail. If it is going to fail, there is nothing that you can do to stop it. Whatever maintenance and fluid change should be done accordingly and the rest is beyond our control.
