The starter will spin the flywheel once and then free spins and sometimes it’ll turn it once and nothing happens.

Hi,

The Bendix on the starter is failing. When you engage the starter, an electromagnet inside the solenoid engages and pushes out the pinion gear in the starter and in turn makes contact with the flywheel and turns the engine.

If it is kicking in and out, the starter should be replaced. Here is a link you may find helpful:

If you look below, I provided the directions specific to this vehicle.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

If you are getting a remanufactured part from the same company, it could be an issue with how they are rebuilt, or the parts used in the rebuild.

Did you get the same brand from the same place?

Keep in mind, based on what it's doing, there really isn't any other cause. The starter turns indicating power is present direct from the battery to the motor, and the starter is actuated which indicates power is being sent to the S terminal on the starter solenoid. Since these are both happening, but the Bendix kicks out and the motor still spins, the problem is in the solenoid/Bendix.

Let me know if it is the brand. If it is, try a different brand and see if that makes a difference.

Also, if you could record what it is doing and upload it for me to hear, I should be able to confirm what is happening.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe
