I had all mounts replaced not long ago, but my Saturn still shakes when idling. It gets worse when the air conditioner is on, but sometimes better when I put the car in park. What else should I have checked?

I also asked about a whine a while back. I was told by a couple friends that it was the fuel pump, but I really do not think that is the problem. It is a loud wine that goes away as I accelerate and comes back when I slow down and speed up. I am not sure if it is from the transmission, but that is what it sounds like to me. My mom also said that was what it sounded like to her. Is this something to worry about?

Also, just in the past few days it has started to kinda hard shift into first gear. I am going to have the transmission fluid and filter changed tomorrow. I should probably have it flushed, but I can not afford that. Do you think that will change this problem?

What are the locations of all the mounts you had replaced? So it bangs when put into drive? Also I asked before can you hear the whine in park when revving the engine? I would never have the transmission flushed. A transmission service does not solve a transmission issue.

You can hear it bump when put into drive sometimes. I had all engine and transmission mounts replaced. Sometimes the shake isn't bad but other times it is and only happens when in idle. It started to shake pretty bad the other day when I went into reverse. I am a bit weary of a flush myself. I didn't get the fluid changed yet but the plan is to do it tomorrow. The weather here has been quite rainy and wet. I do notice the whine when revving in park slightly. Also when I brake my rps jump up and down. I had to coolant sensor replaced but it did not fix the problem. It also idles high when I start the car and will sit at around 1300-1400 rps. It will only go down after I have driven a while.

There is no delay in reverse. I don't know where the locations of the mounts are but my mechanic said he changed all the motor and transmission mounts. This was probably about a year ago but it did not fix the issue.

If I knew what he replaced that would really help. Does it only vibrate in gear?

Then usually the lower transmission mount under the transmission colaspes or tears loose. Also the upper engine mount by the coolant bottle colaspes and tears. Takes some pictures of the upper mount from all different angles and post them for me to see.

As far as the whine noise goes it's hard to say without hearing it and driving it. Sometimes the idler pulley bearings goes bad and whine have seen that before. As far as the hard shift into first goes I would perform a pressure test. They have problems with the valve bodies pressure regulators.

Probably about a hours labor maybe 1.5hrs times there labor rate. I used to charge a hour labor when I worked at the Saturn dealer. But here's the thing they have to do a high and low pressure reading. That's at idle with the line pressure fuse in and the high one is with the line pressure fuse out. With the engine at operating temp. You also have to do what's called a step pressure test. That's where the scan tool commands the pressures at set pressures then you watch the gauge it should be within 10psi high or low of commanded pressures. You can't always pick up a problem with the high and low pressure test. But the step pressure test will usually catch the pressure issue.

Any idea what else could be causing the rpms to go up and down when I hit the brake? Like I said, already had the coolant temp sensor replaced.
