Hi,

Does the light stay on solid, or does it flash? Also, have you tried a different key?

If you have, we need to scan the can-bus to see if there is an issue with a module. CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, the different modules are tied together via a few wires. This type of scan will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them.

Here is a link showing how it's done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/can-scan-controller-area-network-easy

Let me know if that is something you can do or have done. Also, let me know if the starter is engaging.

Take care,

Joe

Hello Joe,

If it's okay with you, I'm going to use lower case for responses.
Yes, the light is solid when the key is turned. I've used these three tools, two of them to reprogram my original keys.
I have tested the battery, actually everything works under the hood except the PCM perhaps. Don't take my word for it. I removed the immobilizer and switch. But not the actuator.
I don't know if the PCM is bad or the immobilizer and switch.

Hi,

I attached the directions for programming keys with the immobilizer module. Take a look through them and let me know if you are able to perform the procedure.

Take care,

Joe

Hi, is there any way you could help me or teach me how to test the ignition switch before I put everything back together? Also, how do I install the immobilizer? I'm having trouble with it because the key release button is in the way. I don't remember how I got it out. Everything on YouTube is bypassing the immobilizer. Couldn't find one that was installing it.

Yeah, disregard the immobilizer. I figured it out. The switch is challenging to install.

Hi Joe,
I still have to install the switch. It's a bit challenging-trying to find out how to install it from YouTube. I don't think there was anything in my Hanes Jeep book. I'm also going to see if I can find anything in my two other resources. 2003 jeep KJ Service Manual. Pdf
Engine03jk_PARTS_FICHE. Pdf
When I get the switch back on then I can try your recommendations.
Do you have any ideas how to install the switch. Because I don't want to break the plastic stick and the u shape metal, it seems that the u shape metal breaks easily on the actuator. So, I have tried a dozen times with no luck going in the switch properly.

It didn't work. I really don't understand why or what is broken. I know how to program a key. I tried to capture every step I did so you could see the error. I took 34 pics. I don't understand why it will not start. I did other scans also just to see what would happen and every scan gave me an error. I also tried the SBB PRO2 and it didn't even come on.

I just checked the fuses inside the jeep with the key in the on position and none of them turned on the light in the tester. The obd didn't come on with small obd reader. But when I turn the key everything lights up in the console.

I just tried to start the jeep and of course it didn't start but the mileage light was on with out key in it. Maybe a minute then went off.

Just keeps getting worse!

Thanks for all your help I really appreciate it.

Dinesh

Oh, by the way, my high beam light comes on when I plug into the OBD. I don't know why. Sorry about the pics being upside down.

I don't understand what you mean by "is it doing the same thing?". It's doing the same as I mentioned above. If not worse. I also don't understand why I have to keep entering the vin number over and over. Then getting errors when I run the key immobilizer test or any other test. The other tests also error out. Do you think my XTool is not working properly? I also don't know why my dash lights come on but the fuses don't register. I only tried to do what you told me to do and now the fuses don't work. I wonder if there's a relay for the fuses which I can test. How do I fix this issue? I would think that's the number 1 priority. Because I can't check anything in the jeep if the fuses don't work.

On a side not on Friday I was installing the thermostat housing on the other jeep and I guess I tightened it too hard and it broke. I wanted to go to Home Depot to get a clear vinyl hose so I could clean the heater core also. Now I don't have anything to drive.

Joe I noticed you sent me a email at 12:34 A.M, where are you at? Just wondering.

Hi Joe,

You're not in Fairfax, VA by any chance? "That would be too good be true". That's great man. I believe all of the fuses on the driver side panel. I can check them again. As much as I don't like to do this, should I disconnect the battery, and computer for a while, then reconnect them to see what happens. I don't remember where I heard this or if I read it somewhere. That if you disconnect the computer so many times then it stops working and the dealer has to reset it.

Thanks,
d

Hi,

Not in VA, but not too far. LOL, I'm near Pittsburgh.

As far as disconnecting the battery, that won't hurt anything. Actually, once it is disconnected, you can take the positive and negative cables and tie them together for about 15 minutes. That drains power from any capacitors.

Let me know.

Take care of yourself,

Joe

So, nothing has changed, the car still hasn't started. I'm at a complete loss. What can I do next? Please help me.

How would you know if the computer is bad? I don't think the computer is bad, because it lights up everything. The immobilizer and switch seem to work, I think. It's that key light in the dash still comes on and I think that's the problem.
When I tried to use the XTool tablet it didn't recognize the car at all. You have the pics I sent. Other ideas from anybody.

Thanks,
d

Hi,

If the scan tool didn't recognize the vehicle, there could be an issue with the powertrain control module. I am going to ask the site owner for his input to see if he has any other ideas.

Take care,

Joe

Ah, PCM is the computer. I thought the computer was ok. It turns all the lights on and tries to start. But I don't know. I'm so frustrated that I can't get the jeep to start.

When I start a vin scan I have to manually insert the numbers and the scanner doesn't keep it in its memory. Maybe I'm doing something wrong and it doesn't keep it memory.

My SBB Pro2 used to recognize it and now it it doesn't. Because I started to use the XTool. So I thought the scanner/XTool might be not working properly. I hate to ask you this, is there someone during the day can also assist me.

Can you consult with other co-workers/experts.

Thanks,
d

These are pics from last October on the SBB PRO2. That's my fuse box in the car.

Yep, I would check for power and ground at the PCM, also when you try to start it does the security light flash? Here is how to swap out the PCM and the wiring diagrams with a guide to help you with the testing:.

You can get a preprogrammed unit by searching Google or Ebay. Check out the images (below). Please let us know how it goes
