My truck shows no performance issues related with a terrible rattling that has been isolated to the transmission case. It's thought that somethings loose inside the case? Some mechanics thought it might be related to the clutch. However, again, there are no performance issues at this time. The truck drives great and the rattle while you hear it when the engine idles and it gets worse as the engine is engaged and goes faster, there are NO problems shifting the truck. Thanks. Scott

Hi,

Replacing the clutch isn't a small job. However, if you take your time, you should be fine.

When you replace the clutch disc, it is also recommended at that time to replace the pressure plate and release bearing. Additionally, having the flywheel resurfaced is also a good idea.

Fortunately, this vehicle is a 2wd which eliminates part of the work. A 4wd would require the removal of the transfer case as well.

To get you started, here is a link that explains how in general it's done. Use this as a guide to help when you're doing the job.

If you look at the attachments below, first I provided the directions for inspection of all components related to the clutch. After that section, I provided the directions for removal and replacement of the transmission which is required.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
