It is taking me two days now to replace my fuel pump. YouTube makes it look easy. I have dropped the tank already and now I cannot get the fuel pump out. I cannot get the thing to turn. I have been told to use a screw driver and a hammer but that is not working. I have been told to use two screw drivers in opposite direction, but no luck. Any other suggestions?

Good afternoon.

After you remove the fuel lines, soak down the plastic nut with WD40.

Then use a screw driver and hammer in a couple of different places to get it to move. Hit it counterclockwise to loosen it. They do make a tool to remove it but most of us just use a hammer and big flat blade screw driver.

You will need to hit it with some force as it is tight.

I have been getting it to unscrew inch by inch I can tell because more dirt keeps coming from under the lid. Can I still use WD-40 to make it loser?

Yes, the lines must come off.
You will need to hit it hard in several areas.

This is not coming off very easily I have been at it for a couple of hours now. I am almost certain I am going the right way because it has been moving but it is taking forever and the tabs along the side are getting messed up.

You are going to have to either find the tool for removing it or get a large pair of channel log pliers that will fit around the collar and use that to turn it off.

I was about to say use large chanel lock pliers to remove it. But put a mark on the plastic nut and gas tank so you line it back up when tightening.

I would like to say thank you to everyone, I finally got the job done! I took it for a test drive yesterday and all was well, although it started to do the same thing it used to do before the pump went out. The fuel gauge keeps moving around, at one point it said it was on E and the gas light came on but I had a little less than a half tank. Is because the ring that holds the fuel pump in is damaged or not on properly?

The usual reason for an erratic fuel gauge is a bad connection in the wiring. I would pull the connector apart and check for damage to the connector pins.
