My jeep engine's rpm's will go up slightly sometime when driving, not all the time but more lately. Also when I stop at a light it will sometimes cut off. What causes this?

thanks, dawn boho

Hello,

It sounds like you might have an issue with the throttle actuator.
This vehicle is equipped with a electronic throttle actuator. Sometimes when the actuator becomes dirty it can have similar issues that you are experiencing. As when its dirty the ECM may not get the correct data and that can have issues with engine idling or acceleration.

This part can be cleaned out and many times that will solve the issue.
Here are couple of helpful guides:

While you are at the throttle body it is a good idea to service the idle air control motor as well. As that can be dirty and triggering idling issue.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
