My transmission seems to dragged through the 1st two gears and when it gets up to about 20 - 30 mph it drives like normal. It also makes a grinding noise before it reaches the 20 - 30 mph. I've been told that the problem is possibly in the convertor or transmission box but I need to know which.

Its hard to say where its coming from-The best way to determine the problem is have the transmission pressure tested-

When was the transmission last serviced?

The transmission itself was replaced approximately 1.5 years ago.

Do you have a check engine light On or has flashed before?

The transmission itself was replaced approximately 1.5 years ago.

Is it a new one or a rebuild? You can take it in and have them check the TCC solenoid and all the shift solenoids. Also the throttle position and vehicle speed sensors checked-this two gives the computer the throttle and governor pressure input signals and in turn the computer commands the transmission to upshift/downshift/lock-up etc. To include the coolant temperature sensor that controls the operation of the overdrive in a given engine temperature.
