Clutch replacement?

99 Honda Accord V4, manual, with 189,000 miles on it. It completely lost ability to accelerate although the RPMs were going up. Had it towed to a shop. Does this sound like the clutch? If so, how much should this set me back? I am a woman with no knowledge of cars and always get pegged as a sucker. The last time I was desperate, I ended up getting charged $250 more for my stupidity. I have heard anywhere from $700 - $1300. Is there anything else that should be done at the same time? Thanks a million!

Hi there,

It sounds like your clutch has failed. Get on the phone and get a few quotes. Ask for a clutch replacement including thrust bearing and machining fly wheel, I don't know how much this will cost you as I live in Aust. But any decent work shop will be happy to give a quote before starting any work. Remember it's your car, your money and your right to know!

Marks advice is good. You will be in that price range you have heard. They should machine the fly wheel, put in a throwout bearing, pilot bearing, pressure plate and clutch. That should be all they need to do.
