Dear All,

This problem came up last month, when I accelerate, I feel dragged by the auto transmission, and after the gear changed from 1st to 2nd, then it is ok for a while, until next gear change. I can feel that the transmission stay at the gear for some seconds before changing

any advice on this?Thanks

Hi accord1996,

Check the throttle control cable adjustment for the trans. If it is adjusted too short, shifting would be slow and engagement results in shocks.

I went to the Transmission Garage, who told me there was nothing wrong with my transmission, the delay is normal.

By what you told, could you tell me how to locate and adjust the throttle cable? Preferably by some pictures.

Hi Joe,

The throttle cable is connected from the throttle body to the transmission at front near the lower radiator hose. Adjusting is via the nuts as shown in the diagram.

Loosen the upper nut until there is some slack on the cable at the throttle body side. Slowly tighten the nut till the slack is just removed and then tighten the lower nut till it locks.

The throttle cable should be synchronised to operate in tandem with the throttle opening of the intake manifold.

Since you are not familar with the adjustment, mark the initial position first so that you know how much you have adjusted. You might need a few tries to get the desired position. After each adjustment, test drive the vehicle first.

Btw if the shifting is erratic, it could be caused by a bad throttle position sensor. You would have to test the sensor and the best way is to use a diagnostic machine. Manual testing would require a DVOM and a wire harness.

Hey KHLow2008,

I tried to adjust the throttle cable, however, it did not affect anything but the height of accelerator pedal, by the way, there are two similar throttle cables under the hood. When I push the accelerator pedal, one moved, while the other stays still, so I adjusted the one who moved.

I think maybe the TQS has problem. Sigh.

Hopeless.

Could you tell me how to get the analyze software?

You adjusted the wrong cable. This cable comes out from the cabin. If you pull at this cable to move the throttle valve, the other cable is moving at the transmission end, activating a lever.

The cable to be adjusted should be from the throttle body to the transmission near lower radiator hose. Adjust is at transmission side.

You can subscribe to online software provider for your vehicle at $30 per vehicle per car/model.

Due to the long time, the nuts are frozen, maybe some rust, I can not adjust it.

This could be a pressure problem, a sticky shift valve or solenoid, I would be getting a transmission specialist to do a service & report on this transmission.

Before adjustment, check if there is any slack in the cable at the throttle side. While pushing the lever at transmission end to prevent it from moving upwards, lightly push at the throttle body end to check for free play of the cable. If there are any, adjustmnt is required.

Quite often the nuts will get stuck and some rust remover (WD 40) is required. Allow to soak for a while and it would be best to have 2 open end spanners (12 mm ) and a plier to hold the casing after the nut is loosened.

My transmission has been acting erratic and check engine light is on. It will not shift gears appropriately. Will not go down to 1st. Pulls off in 2nd. Will not go past 3rd gear. I disconnected the battery for a few seconds. When I reconnected, the check engine light went off and the transmission operates perfectly. However, after about 8 hours of operation the check engine light comes back on and the transmission behaves erratically again. I checked all fuses and relays inside and out, they work. What gives? Is it solenoid or emmission sensors?

When the CEL comes on, an error has been detected and you need to retrieve the trouble codes to understand what is causing the problem.

Autozone provides free scanning to retrieve trouble codes. Let me know the exact trouble codes and we shall continue from there.

You have a problem with the mainshaft speed sensor and here are the diagnostic procedures.

DTC P0715: (FLASH CODE 15) MAINSHAFT SPEED SENSOR
NOTE:
DTC P0715 (FLASH CODE 15) doesn't always mean an electrical problem in mainshaft speed sensor or circuit; this DTC can also be caused by a mechanical problem in transaxle.

1 . Ensure mainshaft and countershaft speed sensors are installed properly. Disconnect mainshaft speed sensor connector and measure resistance between sensor connector terminals.

2 . If resistance is not 400-600 ohms, replace mainshaft speed sensor. If resistance is 400-600 ohms, disconnect PCM 25-pin connector "B". Check continuity between ground and PCM 25-pin connector "B" terminals No. 15 (Orange/Blue wire) and No. 14 (White/Blue wire).

3 . If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Orange/Blue and White/Blue wires between PCM and mainshaft speed sensor. If continuity does not exist, reconnect mainshaft speed sensor connector. Measure resistance between PCM 25-pin connector "B" terminals No. 15 (Orange/Blue wire) and No. 14 (White/Blue wire).

4 . If resistance is not 400-600 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 400-600 ohms, perform DTC P0720 (FLASH CODE 9) diagnostic, check for loose PCM connectors and replace PCM with known good part, as necessary.

5. Disconnect mainshaft speed sensor connector. Check continuity of Red wire between PCM 25-pin connector "B" terminal No. 15 (Orange/Blue wire) and mainshaft speed sensor connector. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open Orange/Blue wire between PCM 25-pin connector and mainshaft speed sensor connector.

6 . Check continuity of White wire between PCM 25-pin connector "B" terminal No. 14 (White/Blue wire) and mainshaft speed sensor connector. If continuity exists, check for loose PCM connectors and replace PCM with known good part, as necessary. If continuity does not exist, repair open White/Blue wire between PCM 25-pin connector and mainshaft
speed sensor connector.

I was driving in traffic stop and go. When I accelerate the padel all the way on the floor the transmission did not shift and rpm was on three and not jumping. After I park and car cool down everything was fine and transmission was shifting normal. I check transmission fluid and it was full. And no leaks. Also check engine light did not turn on and transmission center light did not flash. Could it be internal transmission problem?

Hi sobhy,

It could be due to trans internal fault or the Transmission Control Module. The next time it occurs, try decelerating to see if it upshifts.

Manually shift from 1, 2, D3 and D4 and note if the trans shifts accordingly.
