Transmission hard shifting?

Ever since I've bought it, it has on occasion shifted hard while catching speed, not while slowing down. This does not always happen. I can sometimes drive 300 miles and nothing but then other times ill drive 2 blocks and it was shift hard. Someone told me it could be the solenoid. Help. Also gauge shows its hot but car is not overheating.

You may want to try servicing the transmission. Perhaps the trans filter is plugging. these guides can help.
