my husband got gas yesterday, and when he got in to crank up the truck it would not start, it will turn over but it acts like its not getting fuel. When he poured gas into the top of the motor. It started up, but it wouldn't stay on. Could this be the fuel pump?

Hello,

It does sounds like a fuel related issue.
It could be a bad pump; it can also be restriction in the line like a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pressure regulator.

When you turn the key on, does you fuel pump come on? Typically, the fuel pump can be heard for a few seconds as the key gets turned to the on position.

An inoperative fuel pump can be due to a bad fuel pump relay, wiring issue or a bad pump.
First check the relay, it is located under the hood in the fuse box.
Check for any corrosion or burn pint(s).
That relay can also be tested.

If the relay is good, check to see if there is power to the fuel pump connector. If there is no power, then there could be a short in the fuel pump harness. If there is power but pump is not coming, then it is a bad pump.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
