Hello. I have a 1998 GMC Sierra 1500 P/U with about 112,000 miles. It runs great 99% of the time. Over the last couple of months, I have gone to crank it and it won't start. It did it today. I drove it last night and it was fine. I went to crank it this morning and all it would do was turn over but never start. It did this very same thing about a month ago. I tried to crank it several times over the course of a couple of days but it wouldn't start. I called to have it towed and the wrecker driver cranked it up and drove it on his rollback to take to the shop. I had tried just an hour before he showed up. The mechanic couldn't find anything wrong. Does anybody have any ideas to the cause of my problem. I can hear the fuel pump in the gas tank running when I turn the key over to start it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,

Chris

It sounds like you need either a new ignition control module or crankshaft position sensor. When it won't start spray starting fluid in the intake if it sarts and runs until the starting fluid runs out you have a fuel problem possibly injector timing so your cps (crankshaft position sensor) may be at fault. The cps tells the injectors when to open and close using a magnet to determine the position of the crankshaft and pistons. If it doesn't start your ignition module may be at fault it tells the plugs in each cylinder when to fire. But the distributor cap on your car may be sludged up so look at it if so clean it (you have to take this of to get to the ignition module which is attached to the distributor.
