Hi, can you please tell me how to isolate which it is without taking apart the whole assembly? I was going to loosen the cable and see if created slack in it. Any other suggestions? I did call Honda and they said it is very rare for them to sell the e-brake cables and said that they are known for calipers. Can you confirm this? Thanks for your time.

Hi Neil,

What is the issue with the parking brake? Does the handle not pull up or does it not release?

I attached an adjustment procedure as well as the procedure to remove the cable.

If it is locked in the applied position then I would suggest removing the cable from the caliper and hold onto the end with vice grips and then have someone pull up on the handle in the vehicle and see if the cable moves freely. If it does, then your caliper is most likely the issue. If not, then get a cable for it. Just because they don't sell them that often does not mean it is not the issue. It just needs to be checked before you get one. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens. Let me know what you find and we can go from there. Thanks

Thanks gentleman. I did adjust the e-brake a while back because I thought it was coming up to far/not working as it should. But now I see the specified clicks is 7-9 it's at 3-5. Now I have to try to back that off first I guess or do I check operation first? The car was on the rack for an oil change and as I walked by the right caliper I could see it wasn't in the resting position like the left. There was and is no excessive drag on the wheel after the adjustment also the pads look evenly worn although I did not pull wheels to eyeball the inside pad rotors look good to (not heated). Please tell me if this is the best way to deal with this not to try, but i'm not working and moneys tight I appreciate your help I recently had major back surgery so my mobility is limited now. I always work on my own cars so I don't get screwed or misdiagnosed plus it's my passion. I need to get a helper for this one so I don't have to get up and down a bunch of times. Have a great day and happy Easter.

Thanks, Neil

The way I would decide is if when you lift the wheels off the ground with the parking brake off, do the spin easily? If not I would remove that cable and check operation. If they do just run through your adjustment and you are good to go.

However, I imagine they don’t spin which is why you posted this. If they don’t spin with the brake off then check the cable as described and it if moves then your issue is the caliper.

Sorry to hear about your back. I suffer from back issues as well so I understand your situation.
