I have never had a problem with my doors on the 1999 Ford Taurus, until this morning, when my driver's side door wouldn't latch. I had to drive all the way to work this morning holding the door shut on the high-way. Temperatures here a frigid cold- about 5 degrees. I was wondering if it might be possible that parts on the door froze. And this might be why it would not latch? Any ideas of what I might be able to try? Thanks so much!

This has happened on my Taurus as well. The latch is in the "engaged" or closed position, making it impossible to close. Whatever you do, do not try to force the door closed. This will damage the latch assembly and/or the catch pin located on the inside of the B pillar. In the past, I have inserted my index finger into the center of the latch and physically pushed the latch back to the open position (push to the right). You may have to jiggle the handle a bit while you are doing this. Be sure the door is in the un-locked position. Once the latch is freed up, spray some white lithium grease into the assembly. This will help prevent future occurances.
