AXLE SHAFT & BEARING
Removal
Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel and brake drum. Remove housing cover and drain lubricant.
For all ratio axles except 3.73:1 and 4.10:1, remove differential pinion shaft lock bolt and pinion shaft. Push axle toward center, and remove "C" locks from splined end of axle shaft.
NOTE:Pinion gears may be left in place. When axle shafts are removed, reinstall pinion shaft and lock bolt to retain components in position.

On 3.73:1 and 4.10:1 ratio axles, remove pinion shaft lock bolt. Place hand behind differential case and push pinion shaft outward until step on pinion shaft contacts ring gear. Remove "C" locks from splined end of axle shaft.
On all axles, remove axle shaft, ensuring no damage to oil seal. Using slide hammer and Bearing Remover (T85L-1225-AH ), remove wheel bearing and axle shaft seal as a unit from differential housing.
