1997 Ford Expedition smell in the engine, coolant?

Ive noticed a smell coming from the engine area when im driving & just this morning my truck started to over heat. I think it needs coolant but I dont know what to put in it. Some people say half water half coolant? Im afraid to drive it now because it started to slow down before I parked. Help :(

Coolant should be mixed 50/50 with water. Refill the system drive it and then place a piece of cardboard under it so we can identify the aprox area of the leak. When you do that let me know so I can tell you what to check. Also, it is the 4.6L or the 5.4L?
