1997 Ford Expedition when I a, at a stop it idles rough but

The engine idles rough but dont stall out and sometimes while driving it looses power the rpm go up but does not wana go over 30 then eventually after giving it gas it kicks back in and runs. Vehicle runs rough in all speed. Anybody help.
i replaced one coil pack and it ran fine for a while and it came back again.

Is the check engine light on again? Is this the 5.4L V8? Has the vehicle been tuned up lately?

No there is no service engine light. Someone suggested it might be the catalaytic converter. But what would make a spark plug coil or coil pack to burn out? The veh runs but rough idle at all speed. The engine revs up when trying to shift into gears. If it was the transmission it would have gone out already. The veh has not been tune up. Sometimes the gas consumption is real high, sometimes it seems to be ok on MPG. I love this veh, its been good to me. Thanks.

Hi:
If it hasn't been tuned up for some time, you may want to start there. If it doesn't help, move to the fuel pump pressure.

What do you think? And also, the catylatic converter can cause these problems too. Listen to see if there is any hissing or ratteling coming from the exhaust. Is there a fare amount of pressure coming from the exhaust?
