There is a fuel filter on the frame rail on the drivers side. Here is a guide to help you get an idea on how to change it out.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-change-a-fuel-filter

You should run the codes as well to see what code comes up so it will guide us to a possible problem.

A combination filter and pressure regulator is used on all models.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1.Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2.Remove the fuel tank filler cap.
3.Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
4.Raise and safely support the vehicle.
5.Remove the fuel tank assembly.
6.The fuel pressure filter/regulator assembly is located on the top of the fuel pump assembly. It is not necessary to remove the fuel pump to remove the pressure filter/regulator assembly. Matchmark the direction the hose fitting points. Unit must be reinstalled pointing in the same direction.
7.Twist the filter/regulator assembly out of its grommet on the fuel pump.
8.Remove the snap ring that retains the convoluted tube to the filter/regulator. Slide the tube down the plastic fuel tube to access the fuel tube clamp.
9.Gently cut the old fuel tube clamp off, taking care NOT to damage the fuel tube or drop the clamp inside the tank.
10.Remove the fuel tube from the filter/regulator assembly by gently pulling downward.
11.Remove the filter/regulator assembly from the fuel pump module.

To install:

12.Install a new clamp over the plastic fuel tube.
13.Install the filter/regulator assembly to the fuel tube. Rotate the filter/regulator until it is pointed to line up with the matchmark previously made.
14.Tighten the clamp to fuel line using Hose Clamp Pliers C-4124 or equivalent.
15.Slide the convoluted plastic tube up to the bottom of the filter/regulator and install the snap ring.
16.Press the filter/regulator assembly into the rubber grommet making sure it is pointed in the 10 o'clock position.
17.Install the fuel tank.
18.Lower the vehicle.
19.Connect the negative battery cable.
20.Install the fuel filler cap.

You can check this guide out which show what you are in for when doing the job.

Fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator is mounted on top of the fuel pump module, located on the top of the fuel tank. No periodic service is required. The fuel filter/fuel regulator should only be replaced if it is clogged or if a diagnostic procedure indicates it is time to do so. No separate frame mounted filter is used.

If you still need to replace the filter/regulator assembly, below are the procedures to do so.

REMOVAL:
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the fuel tank filler cap.
Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
Raise and safely support the vehicle.
Remove the fuel tank assembly.
The fuel pressure filter/regulator assembly is located on the top of the fuel pump assembly. It is not necessary to remove the fuel pump to remove the pressure filter/regulator assembly. Matchmark the direction the hose fitting points. Unit must be reinstalled pointing in the same direction.
Twist the filter/regulator assembly out of its grommet on the fuel pump.
Remove the snap ring that retains the convoluted tube to the filter/regulator. Slide the tube down the plastic fuel tube to access the fuel tube clamp.
Gently cut the old fuel tube clamp off, taking care NOT to damage the fuel tube or drop the clamp inside the tank.
Remove the fuel tube from the filter/regulator assembly by gently pulling downward.
Remove the filter/regulator assembly from the fuel pump module.

INSTALLATION:
Install a new clamp over the plastic fuel tube.
Install the filter/regulator assembly to the fuel tube. Rotate the filter/regulator until it is pointed to line up with the matchmark previously made.
Tighten the clamp to fuel line using Hose Clamp Pliers C-4124 or equivalent.
Slide the convoluted plastic tube up to the bottom of the filter/regulator and install the snap ring.
Press the filter/regulator assembly into the rubber grommet making sure it is pointed in the 10 o'clock position.
Install the fuel tank.
Lower the vehicle.
Connect the negative battery cable.
Install the fuel filler cap.

The fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator (Fig. 3) is located at top of fuel pump module on top of fuel tank (Fig. 4).

Fuel pump module removal is not necessary for filter/regulator removal.

Drain fuel tank and remove tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Removal/Installation.
Clean area around filter/regulator to prevent contaminants from entering pump module.
The fuel filter/regulator is pressed into a rubber grommet. Remove by twisting and pulling straight up. CAUTION: Do not pull filter/regulator more than three inches from fuel pump module. Damage to coiled fuel tube (line) may result.
Fig. 5 Fuel Tube And Clamp - Typical

Gently cut old fuel tube (line) clamp (Fig. 5) taking care not to damage plastic fuel tube. Remove and discard old fuel tube clamp.
Remove plastic fuel tube from filter/regulator by gently pulling downward. Remove filter/regulator from fuel pump module.
