My truck just failed smog (evap), was told get a new gascap. Truck normally starts and runs great. I put the new cap on and nuthin! Wont crank over, nuthin. Put old cap back on and nuthin. I started it right before the replacement because it sat for a week(just chkin. What the?

Replacing the fuel cap is a common suggestion by auto parts stores. However, they usually are fine and rarely go bad. I assure you that a new cap isn't causing the vehicle not to start.

First, are you getting spark and fuel to the engine to get it running?

Next, when the computer was scanned, did they tell you it had a leak in the EVAP system?
