2001 Dodge Dakota 4X4 light on dash is not on

4x4 does not appear to be working. The 4x4 light that should be in instrument panel when key is first turned to on is not on at all. I would appreciate a good starting point to troubleshoot, or frequest causes of this condition. I have alot of repair experience, but none with 4x4.

IS this an electric shift 4wd? If so, start by checking for power to the 4wd actuator on the transfer case.

Let me know what you find. Also, make sure the connector isn't corroded and is tight.
