Shuts off while driving then does not want to start

It overheats and it seems to do okay on longer trips, but if we start it up every 20 minutes because we're running errands it shuts off. Replaced the thermostat and coolant sensor. The cover that goes over the timing chain/belt is missing as well.

It sounds like your cooling fans are not running. When the engine is close to overheating can you look under the hood and see if the fan is running?

If not, then we can proceed with some electrical testing to see if the fan is good and circuitry.

Here is a guide with the common items that cause overheating just for us to start checking them off. Let us know about the fans and we can go from there. Thanks
