Crank no start

Hi. Within the last 6 months, the Cruiser has irregularly had trouble starting. When the ignition is engaged, it will just "click". It initially appeared to be a bad battery. So, I replaced the battery. Within days after the new battery purchase, the vehicle failed to start. I took it to a mechanic who tested the starter, battery, and alternator. He found that the battery was again drained but everything else he reported was fine. He suggested I take the battery back for replacement. I took the battery back to Autozone and had it replaced with an upgrade. The Cruiser started fine for a couple of weeks. However, it happened once again and I had it towed to Pepboys who diagnosed the problem as a bad starter. The starter was replaced and the car ran fine for about a month and a half before it happened again, this time while I was out of town. I had a third mechanic who tested the electrical system for two days to locate the potential battery drain, but he found nothing wrong. Since that time, the Cruiser has failed to turnover on two other occasions. Each time a jump start corrected the problem. Any ideas on what else can be looked into to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Joe,

Yes, the first and third mechanics tested the alternator output and didn't find any problems either time. I have someone check it again, though. Couldn't hurt.

On the other note, the engine never dies or stalls while driving.

I am wondering if it is possible that there might be a short somewhere in the system. But I don't kinow how to test item or even how to talk to a mechanic about it. Any suggestions?

I have a 2003 Cruiser Trubo, one day it just died at an intersection, mechanics have said the fuel pump is working just fine. Spark plugs, battery, timing belt, everything is fine, it just wont start. My moter said she used to have anissue with a sensor, but couldn't go beyond that, are you aware of any common sensor/computer error that prevent the fuel from flowing?

I know nothing about cars, but I just can't afford to keep having her towed to different mechanics.

We are having problems with the car not cranking!
WE have changed the battery, the starter, belts,
sent it back to the shop and it cranked the morning that
They were going to come pick it up so we drove it there instead. They kept it for almost 2 weeks and it cranked every time. Today on Monday, August 24,2009 It will not start! Has ANY ONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM? PLEASE HELP US FIND OUT WHAT IS GOING ON.
OUR NEIGHBOR HAS THE SOME PROBLEM WITH HIS CHEVY TRUCK AND HE SAID IT WAS THE ANTI THIEF SYSTEM ON HIS TRUCK AND IT HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN.
IT will go a few times to crank then it won't then go out side and try and try atleast 5 to 10 times then it will crank.
So this car doesn't have an anti - thief system.

But this car doesn't make that kind of sound.
It just makes a click. We do not hear the fuel pump.
So Now what?

Had the auto shop to come pick it up. They are the ones that changed the starter. When they arrived they checked it and said once again it is the starter. That sometimes
there are starters that are bad? Guess I will see. Thank you for your reply I will keep you posted.

I have a 2003 pt cruiser gt turbo have put a lot of money in it ran great for awhile. Now when I shut it off and go back out to start it it turns over real fast but wont start. Turn key off then on again turns over fast for about 15 seconds then starts. Has been doing this all day long I use car for work and need help thanks.

The motor has been flush and new oil, heads redone, new water pump, new timing belt, new plugs, new wires, new fan and motor, all new gaskets. So what else does it need I mean you shut it down and it does start but then some times it will just crank over and not start. But then it will start 5or 6 times in a row then turn over 15 seconds then start. I am a former marine and have work on cars for a long time but this is wierd out of work and no extra money.

I took 2003 pt cruiser gt turbo to shop for code error only 1 and says #1loose or missing drive belt not that, #2 alternator defective not that, #3battery defective not that, #4 poor electrical connection check that and everything is tight. Dont know what it is it will crank over fine and start then other times I crank it over it takes 10 to 15 seconds then starts Im to the point of shooting it and getting it out of misery.
