I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado. The fuel pump went out, and I replaced it with an Airtex brand new pump. Once the new pump was installed, I turned the key on to listen for the telltale "whirring" noise and as per specs from the PCM module, it shuts off after about 2 seconds; thus priming the system. No start, turned the key to on and off 3 times just to make sure it was priming all the way up to the regulator. Nothing. Began troubleshooting even further and realized that once I disconnected the exit side of the fuel filter, there was no fuel coming out when the pump is energized.(Fuel filter was replaced last service approx 3500 miles ago) To eliminate the possibility of a clogged fuel line, I disconnected the main feed line off of the top of the fuel pump, and a helper turn the key on, it makes its "whirring" noise but nothing. No fuel whatsoever. I believed that I had received a faulty fuel pump. Called my supplier from where I purchased it and told them the situation, they immediately sent me out another new pump. Installed this 2nd new pump the exact same way. Key in the on position, makes the whirring noise, and once again absolutely no fuel coming from the feed line of the new pump. According to the Chilton manual, if the pump makes the noise, its working and pumping fuel. Mine however does not. What could be the problem? Is it a horrible coincidence to receive 2 faulty brand new fuel pumps? Any answers to my problem would be greatly appreciated!

Actually removed the feed line from the top of the pump, all electrical connected with finger over outlet anticipating to be splashed with fuel, had helper turn key to on position. Pump energizes (whirring noise) for about 2-3 seconds. No pressure no suction, no fuel.

Thank you.I will have him check that too. Since I posted, they came out again this morning and was able to get the truck started by taking off the butt ends. They said it was like they weren't getting the correct contact. Once he took the ends off and taped them all up, the truck fired right up. Although I was nervous about getting stuck somewhere, the truck ran great and I drove it into town. I made a couple stops and then at my last stop, the truck wouldn't start again. The person came and undid the orange wire and then wired it up again, the truck fired up again and I was able to drive home. He said the orange wire seems to be the one that keeps faulting? I am at a loss here? What does the orange wire do? The fuel pump that was put in is an aftermarket pump. Just a note. He checked all the fuses and relays, all are working.

No luck, ran a bypass and put 12v directly to gray wire (hot lead to pump) let it run and listened to the pump make its noise for approx 10-15 seconds and still received no fuel from the top of the pump.

Yours may be a truck that has a poor harness going to the fuel pupmp. Usually with these pumps a 12" harness with a different connector comes with it and it HAS to wired to the old harness, replacing the last foot or so. It SHOULD be properly wired in by soldering the connections and then using shrink tubing to cover the bare wires and protect it from moisture. This may ebe your problem especially since you are saying that they have to "fix the wires" so the truck will run correctly.
