1989 Chevy Silverado New Owner Old Vechicle.

Bought this old truck at an auction no papers. Not even a manual, I've never owned a truck before, not even a 4 wheel drive.
Question 1
What are some worth while things to check for on this truck to see if its well maintained? Seals to check?
Question 2
Worth while things to check in case it wasn't.
Question 3
What are some problems that have plauged this kind of vechicle that I may do to prevent?
I already drive it slow since its a gas guzzler:)

Change the air filter and pcv filter, then change the fuel filter, spark plugs, wires. Also run a fresh tank of gas with some fuel system cleaner with it.

ALSO clean out the EGR valve, replace the PCV valve and check for vaccum leaks on everything.

My Truck seems to Buck when it switches gears ussually going from first to second gear.
Question 1
What causes this?
Question 2
Is this Normal? How Severe of a problem is this to the life of the truck?
Question 3
Possible way to fix? OR do I need a new transmission?

Take it in to a shop and have them give the tranny a lookover.
