1989 Chevy Silverado V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

My chevy will go into 4 wheel low but not in 4 wheel high I have a shifter inside the truck and I pull it down towards the seat like normally and nothing happens, then I put the truck in neutral and push the 4 wheel drive shifter into 4 low and it is fine, what is wrong?

If you have 4 low and not 4 high, there is an internal problem within the transfer case. If the 4 low didn't work, I would say it's a vacuum problem.

Just to make sure, disconnect the linkage at the transfercase, (MAKE SURE THE PARK BRAKE IS ON IN CASE IT GOES INTO NEUTRAL) and see if you can get 4 high by hand. Maybe the linkage has slipped.
