Car will not shut off

My car is an 04' Chevy Impala it has 70,000 miles. When I went to put the car in park the key would not turn to the off position and the lights and radio are still running, what is the problem and how do I fix it?

Check the rod that runs down the back of the steering column. You have to drop the column. The rod runs from the key to the switch. If it is OK there might be some damage in the key area or the steering lock pin area which is behind the steering assembly on the column. Remember to disconnect your battery ground before doing any of those repairs to avoid an accidental air bag deployment.
