2002 Chevy Impala, 3.4 engine

Had catalact converter replaced 2 months ago, now check engine light comes on, throws the code p0420, which is the code for the catalact converter. Has a really strong exhaust smell? Car has 142,000 miles.

Ubnless there is an air leak ahead of the converter, the comverter is probably bad. IF a universal one was used, it may not work. A direct fit converter is the only one I would use.
