Check lower radiator hose see when engine gets hot if it collapses. If yes replace hose.

So, my wife and I just got our brakes fixed, as well as our driver side door pins and as she went to drive me to work, it began to overheat and start throwing smoke from the engine it completely maxed the temperature gauge at over 260 degrees. I hardly know anything about cars, but I know that is bad. As well as the fact all of the coolant was now drenched over the right side of the radiator, and there was no more coolant in the reservoir. We really do not have the money to keep fixing things in this vehicle, and I cannot afford to miss work. I just got this job and need it badly. Any ideas? Anything to help would be greatly appreciated.

Your first step is to stop driving it immediately. You may have already done serious internal damage from overheating. It only takes one time at those temperatures to do permanent harm.

You need to fill and pressure test the cooling system to find the source of the leak and repair it. Then just hope the engine is not damaged.

As of yesterday my Blazer over heats at a short distance. Water ands coolant are fine.
Could it be the thermostat. Where is it located?

Yes it could be the thermostat. It is located under the water neck housing. The upper radiator hose connects from the radiator to the water neck housing.

If you have the tools and ability to do it yourself, just fill the system and pressure test it. Some parts stores will loan or rent a pressure tester. If not, you may have to tow it to a shop for testing.

1990 Chevy Blazer V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 150k miles

Have a K-5 blazer with a front plow on it and it overheats when traveling down the highway. Would lowering the thermostat help with this situation or is there a better solution to this engine maintains operating temp during plowing and regular driving but not on the highway. I know this is do to having the plow block the radiator and restrict air flow and also the amount of drag by having a "brick wall" doing 55 down the tollway. Any advice would help. Thanks guys.

HI:
I have the same problem with my Dakota. The only thing that helps me is lowering my plow as close to the road as I can and keeping it on an angle. Lowering the t-stat to a lower temp may help.

1995 Chevy Blazer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer and I think that it has 200,000 miles on it. I am trying to figure out what part could be leaking on my car. It is leaking in the front of the car right when you look under you can see it leak. I personally think that it is oil but not positive. I just had the oil cooler line replace about 3 months ago and was wondering if this could just be a hose. Any answers would help as I am trying to figure this out myself because of my income and being a single parent right now.

The color of the fluid will tell you what line is leaking, red= tranny line, brown= oil, green or orange = antifreeze. Let us know.

I think it is brown. So I am pretty sure that it is the oil.

It will depend on were the leaks is, is it at the front of the motor under the large pulley on the bottom? Could be a seal, or it could be the oil pan itself is rusting out, and has a small hole in it. Could also be the oil sender, these occassionaly develop leaks too.

Because you have a leak in your cooling system somewhere. Start from the radiator to radiator hoses, to thermostat housing, to bypass and heater hoses, water pump, heater core, or the freeze plug.

You need to physically look under the hood and under the vehicle to see whee the leak is coming from.

After my wife drives 3 miles to work she sometimes sees a puddle of coolant under the car. She watches the gauges, temp is normal, new radiator. I checked it where it sat, seems to be coming from over flow, but why. THANKS

Pressure test the cooling system just to be sure its not leaking. I have never seen a coolant jug overfill and it not over heating

I have a smell of radiator hot coolant smell coming in the air vents, smell is like burning smell but see no leaks any wheres on the outside. What could this be? Iam thinking heater core could that be it? Thanks
