The car will crank but not turn over. Checked the gauges and it has a new battery. Changed the CPS, and it will not start. Put new gas in and charged battery will not start.

The key light is on for security. Using the original key, and do not know if it is a security thing. Called a dealership and they will not tell me cost of maintenance. Never had a problem until recently. Looked at the security wires under dashboard and driver door and nothing seems loose.

The security light being on is shutting off the fuel and ignition. Until that is repaired it will not run. Either the key went bad, or the system that reads the key has failed. It could be as simple as a new key cylinder and key (which then has to be programmed to the vehicle) or it could be the security module itself or the wiring between them. The dealer cannot give you a price because they will not know what to repair until they actually can scan the car and see what is wrong.

Is there anyway to fix the problem at home. I do not have a way to get the car to the garage at the moment, but I do know of someone that fixes cars on the side. Is there a way to rewire it enough to get to drive the car to a mechanic?

None that I know of. It's very integrated into the vehicle, to the point that even something like changing the stereo can mess it up.

On the 99 jeep grand cherokee I6 4.0, when you change the coil pack, you need to change wiring to coil pack. Switch wires in the plug and directly reverse them. Right to far left, outside left ti far right, and then reverse the two middle wires the same way. The coil wiring to the new coil pack was changed on the after market coil pack. So current plug wiring won't work. I had a shop do this to mine after replacing coil pack twice, changing cam shaft sensor, crankshaft sensor was fine, compression was fine. Was getting plenty of fuel. All computer tests were good. Same with plugs and wires. All grounds were cleaned and remounted. Must do this when changing coil pack. Save yourself some time and money. We wired in a secondary plug that the wires were switched, in with the current existing plug. Basically made our own adapter plug for aftermarket coil. Truck fired right up. Save yourself 300.00 in labor fees by simply doing this adapter plug yourself.
