Hi Ed. Welcome to the forum. No inertia switches on GMs or Chryslers. That's a silly Ford thing. If the battery was dead, the anti-theft system might be keeping the injectors turned off. To reset it, (I'm doing this from an old, wrinkled memory), crank the engine for a few seconds, then release the key but leave it in the "run" posistion. Wait at least 10 minutes until the Security light changes what it's doing, (on or flashing, I think), then turn the ignition switch off for a few seconds, turn it back to "run" and wait another 10 minutes, then turn the switch back off for a few seconds, turn it back on, wait for another 10 minutes, then try to start the engine. I also read somewhere that the ten minute intervals are used when using a scanner which repair shops will have. Without a scanner, you might have to perform the same procedure but for 20 minute intervals instead of 10 minute intervals.

Yesterday my wife left lights on, got a jump start. This morning it started alright. She stopped at store on way to work. Would not start. Got a gentleman to boost start, would not start. Gentleman adjusted steering column and car started. Ever heard of this and what my be the problem?

Thank-you, Wayne

The only thing in your steering column that has anything to do with your starter is the ignition switch and wiring.

If he did something to your ignition switch and your car started fine, then you definitely have a problem with your switch.

However, your battery could be bad. Once a bat is completely dead/damaged, it can't be charged anymore. And if you get your car started by a jump, then you'll just continue to have starting problems until you replace the bad bat.
