To me it sounds like you have a problem with the rear brake shoes, like one of them has come apart and it now wedged between the drum.

Please check it out and get back to me. Also, you could have a problem with the brake booster leaking vacuum this would be the reason for the hard pedal.

Please let us know what happens.

Best, Ken

Stopped and the driver side wheel are extremely hot. Looks like brake pads but could it be caliper too?

Hello,

Yes it sounds like you have a caliper slide that is frozen which is common. Here is a guide to help you get the problem fixed and the pads changed. Check the video at the top of the guide.

We changed the brakes. Which seems to help with the wheel getting so hot it did crack the brakes that was on truck to begin with. How ever when doing them found white residue over edge of rotor still unsure what that was though did somewhat remove with brake cleaner and rag.

Drivers front brake locked up and was smoking. So I changed the caliper, everything was okay for the forty mile trip home. The next day I drove five to eight miles when both front brakes locked up smoking. They released after two hours. How should I trouble shoot this problem?

Hello,

Are there any Direct Trouble Codes (DTC)(s) set or is your vehicle's ABS light illuminated?

Thanks,
Alex

Alex, the ABS light sometimes comes on, and DTC code appears. But it resets itself. I don't know if this is connected, but sometimes the doors; unlocks and locks! The alarm chime, also sounds when this happens. I've checked the fuses they are okay. Also service tire monitor system sometimes appears. I don't know if this is relative to my problem.

Okay, this could be a problem with ground #300, which is located below the drivers door on the body mount. Check and make sure that the ground is clean, corrosion free, tight, and making good metal to metal contact. Please check this ground out and get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex

Hello again,

This is the ground for your vehicle's Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). 75% of all electrical problems on a vehicle are ground problems. If the ground is okay, I would suspect the EBCM itself. In the diagrams below I have included the directions for removal and installation of the EBCM. Please go through the guide and get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex
