When I switch it in 4-wheel drive I hear a little click saying that is going for drive. However, when I go to take off it feels like something slipping on a drive shaft for transfer case or something slipping and popping.

Good morning,

How long since you cleaned and repacked the front wheel bearings? if there is hard grease from age it will prevent lock up into four wheel drive.

Do you have manual hubs or the hubs that use vacuum to engage?

They offered different option for the 4 wheel drive. some have hubs that contain a one piece bearing and some that have separate bearings as well.

It sounds like partial engagement of the 4 wheel drive system.
