My car listed GLS model, the engine is getting compression and spark but still doesn't start. So, I was told the engine is no good. So, now I am looking for an engine to buy.

Hi,

If you have compression and spark, that is not an indication of a bad engine. Will it start for a couple of seconds if you use starting fluid?

Also, we don't have a section for buying or selling parts. Sorry about that, but I would like to know what has been checked to determine if a different engine is needed.

If you could, record it when cranking and upload it for me to hear. Hopefully, that will help me with some ideas.

Take a look through this link:

Take care,

Yes, I did the starter spray, and it still didn't start. It has gas and a new battery cca 700. The car was given to me, I have the service reports for the car when the car was given to me, I was told it wasn't running. So, I towed it to my house and started troubleshooting issues and researching things. I know the spark plugs are good because I tested them with a flat head. All 4 of them the compression is good I felt air coming from the valve when it was trying to start. What I don't know is if the starter alternator timing belt or fuel pump are any good.

Hi,

Is it possible for you to record it from under the hood so I can better hear the engine cranking? I could hardly hear anything. If you have a helper, have them crank it while you stand in front of the vehicle with the hood open.

I really need to hear it because if you have spark at the plugs, fuel to the engine, and compression, it should run, unless the timing is off. I should be able to tell by listening to it cranking, I just need to hear it a bit better.

Also, the idea that starting fluid made no difference makes me think there is no spark (if the timing is correct). I/m not sure how you tested it, but here is a link showing how to do it. Take a look through it and see if it's what you did.

Also, where are you feeling air come out of the valves? And yes, the timing belt could have jumped time.

Let me know.

Joe
