I took the battery out of my car to change it, and this caused the radio to go into theft-lock mode. Apparently, the owner is supposed to set a radio code when they purchase the car new, but as I bought the vehicle second hand, I have looked through all the documentation that I received with it, and I have found no 4-digit code, handwritten or otherwise. I obtained the scrambled code (7913), and attempted to call several of my local dealerships, but they all insist that I bring the car in and want to charge me upwards of $100.00 to unlock it. I have explained to them that it is not in lock mode, and that I have the scrambled code for them to use. They do not seem to understand this, and just keep saying that I need to bring it in and get it "scanned". If at all possible, I would like to unlock this without forking over a hundred plus dollars for what should be a free service. If anyone has suggestions or any advice, please let me know. Thank you in advance.

That is lock mode or anti theft mode when I worked for Saturn we did that for free at the dealer. The code you have you would take that code. Call the GM radio unlock hotline enter your dealer code followed by the code on the radio. Then they would give you the radio unlock code. There is not a scan tool or scan involved in the process. All the dealers I worked for are all closed so cannot call the radio unlock hotline. Let me see what I can find out.

Thank you very much. That is what I have heard from other's I have talked to about this issue. I am slowly coming to the conclusion that it is not an issue of "scanning" the radio or any other issue, it is just that all the dealerships in my area are money-grubbing highwaymen.

It looks like this is an article for older models that have six digit codes. I have found information online pertaining to radios from 2003 or newer, but when I go looking for information about 2004 onward, it is pretty much a wasteland online. It is beginning to look like I am not going to have any luck unless I find a working dealer code.
